Jacob Singh, a well known Drupal guru, agreed to drop in to our office and spend some time understanding the sort of Drupal projects we were engaged in, and assess the level of competence of our people, with the objective that he gets engaged with our team as a mentor for our Drupal projects, specifically the India Environment Portal, which Srijan is building for Centre for Science and Environment, and backed by the National Knowledge Commission.
Jacob, who has led several large Drupal based portals for several non-profits such as Amnesty International, felt that the India Environment Portal was one of the largest projects on Drupal going around in the world at the moment, in terms of size.
The team pounced on him with questions, and he was generous enough to share several insights and best practices, in a session which was supposed to be 2 hours, but lasted nearly 4 hours.
Some pictures from the free-training he offered our team.

It was really a great opportunity to meet Jacob. I was excited to meet someone who has contributed a lot to the Drupal community.
Though I have worked with Typo3-CMS and Seagull-Framework I prefer Drupal for few reasons like simplicity in implementation and availability of huge number of contributed modules and the active community behind it(really, almost every time I get a response to my queries in the Forum. I too try to contribute whenever possible).
But for websites that need a lot of customization and extending core module I have faced few issues that are hard nut to crack.
After the session with Jacob I felt writing great code is not all that needed but knowing good ways to hack(oops, I mean re-using available source in a good way) sometimes proves to be better. I had a bunch of questions for him and he provided quick solutions for them. I am looking forward for the next session with Jacob that’s going to be more interesting. It’s going to be insightful and help us to dive further into Drupal.
